SWCCCR Sept Meeting Minutes

Posted by rich.little, September 15, 2008

We had an excellent turn out for the SWCCCR September Thursday night meeting. Five new people attended and we look forward to having them at future meetings.

Gary Ramsey did a great job speaking tour group about SAC and how they started building Cobra Replicas. Make no mistake, this is NOT just another “kit car”. The degree of attention and commitment to excellence is obvious in their work. Gary walked us through some of the history of SAC and his experience racing at dirt and asphalt tracks in the southeast. He said that SCCA has been a wonderful club for him to run with, make friends and share. He answered some questions on Dynos and gave us some information handouts to better understand how they work. We left Ryan’s Steak house after our regular meeting and went down to the SAC shop on Lauren’s Road. Gary, Jack and Joey had Gary’s monster Blue Cobra from the hillclimbs this year on the dyno ready to go. Gary passed out earplugs and fired it up. It took a while for the tires to warm up to get stick on the drum but he took up to 400+HP on his pull. It was really amazing to watch that kind of power on a dyno. One thing Gary said stuck with a lot of us “Running your car on a dyno is one of the most humbling experiences you can have.” Everyone thinks they have more power than they really have. On the other hand, dyno time is still one of the best ways to find all those little places extra HP is hiding. SAC put on quite a show and the tour of their shop was a real pleasure.

Great MEETING! Thanks to Jack, Gary, Joey, their wives and family for hosting us at their shop. We wish you continued success with your shop and with your Cobras in shows and hillclimbs! Thanks to all who came out!
