Timer Control

Note: If you are using manual data entry mode, you may skip to the next page.

Timer control is carried out from the Staging Window and will depend on whether or not the Timer you have selected provides both Start and Finish triggers. The AXWRATS Timer, AC4 (pre mid-2001), JACircuits (in Chrono Timer mode), and Tag Heuer timers all provide start indicators.  As such, the software can provide additional capabilities to control the timers and timing data.  Timers that provide only the Finish trigger provide a significant less amount of control.  If the Timer provides both Start and Finish triggers, a series of Stop Watch buttons and a Reset Finish button provide control over the Start and Finish triggers.

The Stop Watch buttons provide visual indications of running timers, with simulated elapsed times displayed in each button respectively. The buttons also a Start trigger Reset capability when pressed.

The number of stopwatch buttons depends on the number of logical timers that are configured via the Port and Timer Setup Options tab described in Page 2. Below is a snapshot of 4 Stop Watch Timers (the default).

Timer Reset: Ignoring a false Start Trigger

To reset a Timer (to ignore a false Start Trigger) click on the respective Stop Watch button.  The buttons are numbered form the left to the right, with Timer 1 being the left most Timer, and Timer 4 being the rightmost timer.

The example on the right demonstrates the action taken when the first Stop Watch button is pressed. As you can see, it will ignore the 1st Timer (1st Start Trigger).

Ignoring a false Finish Trigger

If a false finish trigger is generated , resulting in a premature finishing time, the Reset Finish button should be used to ignore that finish.  The current version of the software can only reset a single finish trigger but this feature is being re-evaluated.

To reset a false finish trigger, press the Reset Finish Button. When the button is pressed a prompt will be displayed as show below.  This example demonstrates a premature finish trigger had occurred for the first car in the Staging grid.

If you select Yes, the finish will be ignored and the Stop Watches buttons adjusted accordingly. The software will then wait for the next Finish trigger.

Note: it will be possible to ignore any  number of triggers in future releases.  This can complicate the reset function (and process) but will provide the highest level of functionality, albeit, at the expense of added complexity.
