December 10, 2009

Meeting –  DECEMBER 10th at QUAKER STEAK AND LUBE !

SEASONS GREETINGS!
I would like to invite you to attend our DECEMBER SWCCCR meeting at Quaker Steak and Lube just off Woodruff Road beside the Harley Davidson Dealer! Eat from 6 to 7 and meet from 7 to 8:30 (although parking lot meetings have gone on until 11 to 11:30.  All  attendees are asked to bring your car and park out front on display.

We will have free desserts for all attending!

As always, we will re-cap recent motorsports events, cover all up-coming autocrosses, car shows, time trials, and road races. We’ll also have time for swap and sell so if you have items for sale or trade, bring a good description. Scott Franklin will have some updates on road racing. The Clemson Sports Car Club should have a report on their last autocross and plans for a 2010 Lemons Car Entry.

We do not plan to have a speaker this evening…it’s Christmas so we plan to hang out, have some free desserts and participate in an XBOX Competition!  FORZA 3 ….We will have steering wheel and pedals and you may enter in either the PRO Class (for heavy gamers) or the AMATEUR Class (for beginners and old guys like me.) Trophies will be awarded for top finisher in EACH class.  If you have not tried FORZA on an XBOX,  it may give you some ideas for Christmas.

We’ll look forward to having you with us. We are advertising in the area for this meeting so come early and bring a friend… we have room!. Thanks!

Our sympathies…

Posted by rich.little, October 28, 2009

The CCR-SCCA family extends it’s sympathies to the family and friends of Rich Shafer. Rich lost his life after a racing indicent over the weekend. He drove the Cool Shirt Chevy Camaro in SCCA time trials and hillclimbs. The company and product he worked with, Cool Shirt, has been a great benefit to racers, firefighters, doctors and more.

Rich was 66 at the time of his death. He will be missed by everyone that has known him.

Flowers are to be sent to:
Christ Our Hope Lutheran Church
2165 Highway 138 SW
Riverdale, GA 30296-1700
(770) 997-7117

And should not be delivered until 1pm on Sunday.

In lieu of flowers donations can be accepted and should be sent to Christ Our Hope Lutheran in the name of Rich Shafer. These donations will be used for causes dear to Rich’s heart.

SWCCCR October Meeting

Posted by rich.little, October 10, 2009

October 15, 2009

The South West Chapter of Central Carolinas will hold their monthly meeting October 15th at Quaker Steak and Lube on Garlington Road just off Woodruff Road. In case you have not heard, we told the management how displeased we were with the background noise and that we would not be meeting there again. The managers met with owners and they have constructed a partition to close off the area so we can have a good atmosphere for our meetings. This should be in place for our Thursday night meeting. We will also have an area out front for our members to park…. come show your car! http://www.quakersteakandlube.com/Greenville_SC/

The Clemson Sports Car Club plans to bring their Mazda RX7 club car (known for many years as CC1) to display out front. This car has been used for many years to help students to build skills autocrossing and a number of past grads have continued on in racing with what they learned. The car had been down for a while but working with Steve Hampton of CHAP Racing, they have the car back running again. If you can make it to the autocross this Sunday at BMW, you should see it in competition there!

We will eat from 6 to 7 and start our meeting at 7. We will recap recent events, upcoming schedule of Southeastern motorsports events, trade and sale and our speakers for the evening.

Our topic for the evening will be :

“Preparation - a key to success in motor sports competition”
Our speaker will be one many of you know Hap Waldrop of Acme Speedshop. Hap has raced British cars in the SCCA for over 20 years competing at the top level of amateur road racing. We recently spoke about some of his experiences and I think you will be in for a real treat. If you have the opportunity, take a look at his website
http://www.acmespeedshop.com

EUROFEST - I am in need of some additional volunteers to help out with the BMW charity autocross on Saturday, October 17th. Drivers pay $30 to have the opportunity to run BMW M3s on the course we set up. We need people in the morning and in the afternoon sessions. In return for working, we will get you some runs on the course in the BMWs. I would prefer no one work no more than 1 session so we all have the chance to enjoy the car show as well. Please contact me if you are willing to work and whether you are available for morning or afternoon shift. Thanks for your help. The money raised through this goes DIRECTLY to Red Cross relief efforts right here in the Upstate.

We look forward to a great meeting and hope to see you there! Please call if you need directions or have questions! Thanks
