SWCCCR October Meeting

Posted by rich.little, October 10, 2009

October 15, 2009

The South West Chapter of Central Carolinas will hold their monthly meeting October 15th at Quaker Steak and Lube on Garlington Road just off Woodruff Road. In case you have not heard, we told the management how displeased we were with the background noise and that we would not be meeting there again. The managers met with owners and they have constructed a partition to close off the area so we can have a good atmosphere for our meetings. This should be in place for our Thursday night meeting. We will also have an area out front for our members to park…. come show your car! http://www.quakersteakandlube.com/Greenville_SC/

The Clemson Sports Car Club plans to bring their Mazda RX7 club car (known for many years as CC1) to display out front. This car has been used for many years to help students to build skills autocrossing and a number of past grads have continued on in racing with what they learned. The car had been down for a while but working with Steve Hampton of CHAP Racing, they have the car back running again. If you can make it to the autocross this Sunday at BMW, you should see it in competition there!

We will eat from 6 to 7 and start our meeting at 7. We will recap recent events, upcoming schedule of Southeastern motorsports events, trade and sale and our speakers for the evening.

Our topic for the evening will be :

“Preparation - a key to success in motor sports competition”
Our speaker will be one many of you know Hap Waldrop of Acme Speedshop. Hap has raced British cars in the SCCA for over 20 years competing at the top level of amateur road racing. We recently spoke about some of his experiences and I think you will be in for a real treat. If you have the opportunity, take a look at his website
http://www.acmespeedshop.com

EUROFEST - I am in need of some additional volunteers to help out with the BMW charity autocross on Saturday, October 17th. Drivers pay $30 to have the opportunity to run BMW M3s on the course we set up. We need people in the morning and in the afternoon sessions. In return for working, we will get you some runs on the course in the BMWs. I would prefer no one work no more than 1 session so we all have the chance to enjoy the car show as well. Please contact me if you are willing to work and whether you are available for morning or afternoon shift. Thanks for your help. The money raised through this goes DIRECTLY to Red Cross relief efforts right here in the Upstate.

We look forward to a great meeting and hope to see you there! Please call if you need directions or have questions! Thanks

SWCCCR September Meeting

Posted by rich.little,

September 17, 2009

The SouthWest Chapter of Central Carolinas will hold their monthly meeting September 17th at a new location - Quaker Steak and Lube on Garlington Road just off Woodruff Road.

http://www.quakersteakandlube.com/Greenville_SC/

Along with a great automotive theme, Quaker Steak recently catered BBQ to one of our Solo events at Black Lake and did a great job. They assured me they will have enough waiters/staff and a quiet area for us to hold our meeting.

We will eat from 6 to 7 and start our meeting at 7. We will recap recent events, upcoming schedule of Southeastern motorsports events, trade and sale and our speakers for the evening.

Our vendor for the evening will be Sports Cars Etc. and Henry Payne will tell us a little about his business and Dread Naught Racing. Henry has been an autocrosser, a hillclimber and a road racer for many years. I well remember him driving his Blakely to Charlotte for Solo IIs and whipping us constantly. Henry made the swap from British cars to Miatas a few years back! We’ll look forward to hearing from him and how he’s healing up from knee surgery.

Our topic for the evening will be EUROFEST! In honor of this, we are asking everyone to bring their European cars for parking out front in a special section at Quaker Steak parking lot. We hope to see a wide variety from British to Italian cars!

Barry Harms is one of the car judges that assists in managing the EUROFEST Auto Festival. He will be speaking to us about the history of Eurofest, the plans for this years event (Oct. 16-18) and the marques being honored this year. If you haven’t been to Eurofest, this is one of the largest European car shows held in the south and it’s close… it’s held at the Zentrum at the BMW Manufacturing facilities in Spartanburg, SC!

We look forward to a great meeting and hope to see you there! Please call if you need directions or have questions! Thanks

Food Lion Auto Fair

Posted by rich.little,

September 12, 2009 to September 13, 2009

CCR-SCCA is going to the Food Lion Auto Fair in September.

We will have 10 cars on display both days and are looking for cars to fill those spots. Each participant gets their car and two people into the show for free. Race cars are welcome, but will have to be unloaded behind the speedway and driven into the track to our area. CCR will be in the grass area between the front straight and pit road (in the middle of the Legends track)

This is an all day event. The club will meet at 6:15 and head for the track at 7:00. Auto Fair requests that clubs stay in place until 4:00 at the earliest, as the Auto Fair is open until 5:00.

Please visit this thread on the CCR forum for full information and to claim a spot!

How this event works

* Sign up for the first 12 hours (noon to midnight), the second 12 hours (midnight to noon), or the entire 24 hours.
* You must work 2 hours for every 12 hours you sign up for. The rest of the 10 hours you can run your car as often as you want.
* Cars will be running continuously during the entire event, so you can get back in line anytime you want.
* At the start line, you can declare a run as “official” or say nothing and it will be a practice run.
* Every driver gets 5 official runs, do not wait until near the end of the event to get all official runs in!

This year’s 24 hour event will benefit the Shriner’s. Members of local lodges will be at the event with food and drink, accepting donations for the children’s hospital.
