Second GearSecond Gear
The Central Carolinas Region is proud to offer a new program designed to help novice time trial drivers and road racers get started. We realize getting started in racing is expensive and we’d like to help. Through the SECOND GEAR program, we have collected an inventory of used racing gear that was donated by drivers in the southeastern racing community for your use. This gear is being offered at no charge for competition in specific SCCA SEDIV events. (We may consider use for other events for a contribution to the program.) We have a variety of sizes in drivers suits, gloves, and shoes which will allow you to put your money in other areas so you can make your first racing experiences affordable. There are a few guidelines that we do expect you to follow.
Ted Theodore is in charge of gear management and all loans. Please contact him by email at tedagmar@juno.com with your specific needs. He will send you to a form requesting the following information:
For Driving Suit - Size (If known), Height, Weight, Waist
For Shoes - Your normal Shoe Size (include 1/2 sizes if that is your normal size)
For Gloves - Size (small, medium, large, extra large)
For all gear - Your name, address, contact info, how you will pick up and drop off gear, event and dates of event it will be used in.
It will also ask for your signature agreeing to be responsible for returning the gear as agreed and in good condition. We will work with you to arrange for you to pick up gear. We do not ship (even if you cover expenses). We put the gear in your hands and we expect it to be returned within 7 days of use at the event or you will forfeit opportunity to use SECOND GEAR as a resource.
We do not offer belts or helmets. These are personal and/or safety items and you will need to purchase these as required to go with our gear in the rules of your event. We do expect gear to be returned in good condition. If you get it dirty, clean it before returning it. This is part of the agreement.
SECOND GEAR is a resource offered by the SCCA Central Carolina’s Region to help drivers get their start. It may be that you need to borrow gear for 4, 5 or even 6 events. All we ask is that when you can afford your own gear, please do purchase it so this gear will be available to help others get their start. It is our hope that eventually, you will become proficient racing with us and will be able at some point to donate some of your own gear to help others.
